Yosemite! The new Mac OS 10.1.0

OS X YOSEMITE

Every year, there is a lot expectation from the Apple lover, with regards the latest release on the new OS versions. The most awaited WWDC (Apple’s worldwide developer conference) is being held from June 2nd in San Francisco, California. It was here, Apple announced the release of the new Mac OS x Yosemite (10.1.0) with it new and improved features. In this new version, they have mainly focused on reducing the complexity and has improved user friendliness. Some of the features that were discussed in the conference are:

  1. Improved UI
  2. Notification Center
  3. Spotligh
  4. iCloud Drive
  5. Mail
  6. Safari
  7. Continuity
  • HandsOff
  • Instant Hotspot

Improved UI:

In Yosemite, they have introduced the translucent layer on the window title bar; this will give a transparent effect to the user. When the user scrolls on any content while browsing in safari, the scrolled content (title bar) will be transparent, the page will slide under the window title bar. And the same applies when we set a desktop picture, the title bar will adapt to that. Apple has also introduced the dark mode menu listing when the user clicks on the menu in the title bar. So, it will be lovely experience for the users who are fond of dark colors.

Notification Center:

In notification centre, Apple has added new column called “Today”. It will lists out the present day notifications like event along with calendar, stocks rating, weather and so on. We can also edit or add some more categories to the notification listing, by clicking on “Edit” at the bottom, all we have to do, is just drag and drop the new widgets of your choice. This pretty much sums up how, we can customize the notification

Spotlight :

Compared to the earlier versions of Mac, this Yosemite has new spotlight look. When we click on spotlight icon on the top right in the window, the search bar will appear in middle of the screen. The best feature of the Spotlight is, it will not only give the search result within the Mac but also it comes up with the search result using the internet. For example, if we are searching for any name “Apple”, it will look in the internet and will display the Wikipedia result to the user.

iCloudDrive:

The most amazing and pleasing information for the app developers and Mac users is, iCloud that, sharing is now possible between the Mac and iOS devices through Yosemite. With this, users can share any folder, file or image from their Mac to any iOS devices.

Mail:

Just like the window title bar, the mail app side bar is also made with translucent layer so it gives the user a transparent effect besides the email listing. With Yosemite, the user will be able to send up to 5Gb through eMail.

Safari:

Both look and feel of the safari browser has been made very simple and more user friendly. When the user types any word in the search bar, they can view the related search results from the Wikipedia in the search suggestion list. Safari comes with WebGL standards, and new HTML5 premium video player with1080p HD display. User can open, new “Private browsing” window, in the earlier versions we could open it private browsing as a new tab.

Continuity:

Handoff – is a new concept that was discussed in Apple conference 2014, we can continue the work that we are doing in one device from another device. For example, if we are opening a website in Mac and the user can continue the site from the iPad or any other iOS device. In the iOS device there will be some symbol at the left bottom of the screen, when we swipe it up, the website that we are now looking in the Mac will be able to seen in iOS device as well.

Instant Hotspot – this is also a new concept and also a very interesting feature in this release. If we click on wifi option at the top of our Mac screen, it will also show the user’s iOS device name along with the wifi networks available, if we click on the device name, then “instant hotspot” will get activated in the iOS device. The most interesting is: if we are receiving any new message in our iOS device, we will get a notification in our Mac system also, so we can see the message is from our Mac rather than the device in addition to that we can now attend or make a call from the Mac. For example, if we are doing any work on our Mac system and the iOS device, has been kept for charging pretty far from your table and the user gets a call on their device, the caller id will be displayed on our Mac and the user can attend the call with the use of Mac microphone.
